We don’t judge\, but want to encourage you to participate as much as you can!\nBook Summary of My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Mending of Our Bodies and Hearts by Resmaa Menakem:\nThe body is where our instincts reside and where we fight\, flee\, or freeze\, and it endures the trauma inflicted by the ills that plague society.\nIn this groundbreaking work\, therapist Resmaa Menakem examines the damage caused by racism in America from the perspective of body-centered psychology. He argues this destruction will continue until Americans learn to heal the generational anguish of white supremacy\, which is deeply embedded in all our bodies. Our collective agony doesn’t just affect African Americans. White Americans suffer their own secondary trauma as well. So do blue Americans—our police.\nMy Grandmother’s Hands is a call to action for all of us to recognize that racism is not about the head\, but about the body\, and introduces an alternative view of what we can do to grow beyond our entrenched racialized divide.\nThis book paves the way for a new\, body-centered understanding of white supremacy—how it is literally in our blood and our nervous system. Pebaamibines is also the author of Daga Anishinaabemodaa which presents basic lessons for learning Anishinaabemowin\, the language of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) people. Its wood was used for the doors of sacred temples and burned in cleansing ceremonies for purification. In addition\, cedar has a long history of use in indigenous sweat lodge ceremonies\, and the tree was thought to house important Gods and be an entrance to higher spiritual realms. \nCedar is first and foremost a medicine of protection. When first moving in\, it is often used to cleanse a home\, inviting unwanted spirits to leave and protecting a person\, place\, or object from unwanted influences. In addition\, cedar is often used in the sweat lodge ceremony. A few pinches are thrown on the red-hot rocks\, immediately sparking into a yellow glow and releasing their aroma. The smoke of burning cedar attracts good spirits and eliminates negative energies. \nCedar is also one of the four sacred plants of the indigenous American Indian Medicine Wheel and represents the Southern direction. The other plants contained in the Medicine Wheel are white sage representing the West\, sweetgrass representing the North\, and tobacco representing the East.
