What is the Urban Indigenous Legacy Initiative (UILI)?

Background: The UILI is a collective of 16 Native American non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities – focused on healthcare to housing, workforce development to childcare – that have provided our communities with powerful and effective services for more than four decades.

What will this bill fund?

We’re seeking $83.9 million in state bonds that will support 16 Native-led organizations to construct 12 new or rehabbed, culturally affirming buildings. These facilities will allow us to continue our work, address community needs, expand services, and create safe, empowering experiences for generations to come.

Our Project:

AIFC and our partners will create the American Indian Community Center with proceeds from this bonding bill. This unique and exciting vision project will include three organizations, the American Indian Family Center, Department of Indian Work – Interfaith Action, and Montessori American Indian Childcare Center. We envision the new center as an East Metro cultural hub that the community has been planning collaboratively since 1997. The Center is the vision of one co-located space. This space will bring together community services and resources, becoming a beacon of pride and safety for Indigenous families.  It will be a place where American Indian Families Thrive!
